“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.” -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Over the almost two years of our work at the BCAC, we have witnessed numerous heartwarming and selfless acts of service in fighting this COVID Pandemic conducted by individuals and organizations from across the DC community. As we observe these dedicated “Heroes and Sheroes” we understand that their efforts bring us closer each day to realizing Dr King’s vision of a ‘Beloved Community’. As such, we turned to our trusted community partners for their recommendations of people and organizations that exemplify the many who have risen to the challenge of conducting the often difficult work required to save Black and Brown lives in our city. We are privileged to acknowledge and honor them and we hope that their example will inspire others in the spirit of Dr King and the mandate to make real the exhortation that Black lives really do matter!
